Speaker: Carlene Thissen
Carlene Thissen was a leading supermarket technology consultant whose life changed when she volunteered to teach music to pre-school children in Immokalee. She has written two books and several songs that were inspired by her experiences there, and is now a full-time author, speaker, singer and songwriter.
Her book Immokalee's Fields of Hope was written in hope that the stories of the immigrants in their own words, framed with the political histories of their countries, might soften people’s hearts as they weigh the complex issues surrounding immigration from Latin American and Caribbean countries.
